Though axed and maimed by man, trees selflessly serve him by providing him fruits and shade. Rivers carry water to quench man's thirst and to cleanse his body. The cow also selflessly serves man by providing milk. Man should, in the first place, realize the truth that he has been endowed with the human body not for seeking his selfish ends but for serving others. Since man has gained his wealth, knowledge and skills from society, he has to discharge his debt to society by doing some good in return. A man without this supreme virtue of gratitude is worse than a cruel animal; his education and skills are a sheer waste. It is indeed by serving society that these acquire splendour and significance.

اگرچه انسان درختان را با تبر و تیشه زخمی می کند و می اندازد، ولی آنها بدور از خودخواهی، میوه و سایه خود را به آنها تقدیم می کنند. رودخانه ها برای فرونشاندن تشنگی و تمیز کردن بدنشان، برای ایشان آب می آورند. همچنین گاو با فراهم کردن شیر بدون خودخواهی به انسان خدمت می کند. انسان باید، در درجه نخست، این حقیقت را دریابد که بدن انسانی برای خواسته های نفسش به او بخشیده نشده، بلکه بمنظور خدمت به دیگران بوده. پس از اینکه انسان ثروت، دانش و مهارت از جامعه کسب کرد، در ازا، باید که دِینش را به آن، با انجام کارهای نیک ادا کند. هر کس که چنین تقوای والایی از منش نداشته باشد، از حیوان بی رحم بدتر است؛ تحصیلات و مهارتش، هرز و حرام ِ محض است. براستی که با خدمت به جامعه، این شکوه و جلال و اهمیت و اعتبار تحقق میابند.

The same God dwells in all beings. There is no justification for differences on the basis of religion. It is attachment to the body which accounts for religious differences. Do not regard the body as permanent. It is a water bubble. The mind too is like a mad monkey. Don't follow either of them. Follow the conscience. Today, people read all kinds of books and follow so-called 'great persons'. They do not enquire about what constitutes greatness. Realize that there is no one greater than each of you. But you have not discovered the real truth about yourself, just like an elephant that does not know its own strength, which is why a mahout with a goad is able to control it. Recognise the fact that the whole universe is within you. You have all the powers in you. They are derived from the Divine Spirit within you. Forgetting the supreme power of the Spirit, people rely on the powers of the body, the mind and the intellect.

یک خداوند واحد است که در وجود همه مخلوقات مسکن گزیده. هیچ توجیهی برای تفاوتهایی که در اساس ادیان است وجود ندارد. این تعلقات جسم است که برای ادیان، فرق می گذارد. جسمتان را جاودان در نظر نیاورید. آن چیزی جز یک حباب آب نیست. ذهن نیز همچون میمونی دیوانه است. از آنها پیروی نکنید. از باطن خود اطاعت کنید. امروز، مردم همه گونه کتاب می خوانند و از آدمهای به اصطلاح "خیلی بزرگ" پیروی می کنند. هیچ نمی پرسند بزرگی از کجا می آید. این را بدانید که هیچ کس بزرگتر از هر کدام از شما نیست. لیکن شما حقیقت راستین را در مورد خود کشف نکرده اید، درست مثل یک فیل که از قدرت خویش ناآگاه است؛ و به همین دلیل یک فیلبان قادر است با یک سیخک آن را کنترل کند. این حقیقت که همه جهان در شماست را دریابید. با فراموشی قدرت مافوق روح، مردم به قدرتهای جسمی، ذهن و شعور خود تکیه می کنند.

Divine love is the only panacea for all the troubles and miseries that arise from man's insatiable desires and frustrated ambitions. God's love is like a lighthouse beacon. It shows the right direction. Navigate the boat of your life towards the lighthouse of Divine love. You are then bound to reach the shores of bliss. You do not need any special type of penance or meditation. Meditate on love. Fill your mind with love. Even while attending to your daily chores, regard all of them as offerings to the Divine. God is omnipresent. See God in every thing and every being. Let such steadfast love be enshrined in your heart. As Saint Tukaram said: "Dil me Raam, Hath me Kaam" (Install God in your heart and go about attending to the task at hand).

عشق معنوی تنها علاج همه مشکلات و بدبختی هایی است که از آرزوهای سیری ناپذیر بشر و خواسته های پوچ او سرچشمه می گیرد. عشق خداوندی همچون فانوس دریایی است که مسیر درست را نشان می دهد. قایق زندگیتان را به سوی فانوس عشق خداوندی هدایت کنید. آنگاه، یقینا ً به ساحل سعادت و شادی می رسید. شما به هیچ شکل خاصی از ریاضت یا مدیتیشن (تفکر و تعمق) نیاز ندارید. در عشق تعمق کنید. ذهنتان را از عشق لبریز سازید. حتی به هنگامی که متوجه کارهای روزانه خود هستید، همه آنها را به عنوان پیشکشی به معنویت در نظر آورید. خداوند در همه جا حضور دارد. خداوند را در همه چیز و همه مخلوقی ببینید. بگذارید این عشق پایدار در قلبتان گرامی داشته شود. همانطور که توکارام مقدس فرمود: "دیل می رام. هت می کام." (خداوند را در قلب خود جای دهید و تحقق این امر را سریعا ً ممکن سازید)

Compassion towards all creatures is the greatest virtue; willful injury to any creature is the worst vice. Have full faith in this and spread love and joy through compassion, and be full of joy and peace within. You do not have joy and peace now because your vision is directed towards the faults and failings of others, and never towards your own faults and failings. Truly speaking, upon enquiry, you will find that what we see in others is but a reflection of our own selves - our prejudices and preferences.

مهربانی به همه مخلوقات، بزرگترین تقواست؛ و میل به اذیت و آزار هر مخلوقی بدترین گناه است. به این امر ایمان و باور کامل داشته باشید و عشق و شادی را از طریق مهر و محبت به همه ارزانی دارید، سراسر شور و شادی، توام با آرامش درون باشید. اکنون شما این شور و شادی و آرامش را ندارید، چون نگرش شما به سوی اشتباهات و شکستهای دیگران معطوف است، و هیچگاه به سوی اشتباهات و کوتاهی های خودتان جلب نمی شود. به بیان صادقانه، با پرسش و کنکاش، متوجه می شوید که آنچه در دیگران می بینیم چیزی نیست جز انعکاس خودمان – پیش داوری ها و معیارهای ما.

The body, the mind, the intellect and the senses are but instruments. The question then arises, "Who are you?" The answer is: "You are the master who makes use of these instruments." When you refer to "my mind, my body, my senses," do you enquire "Who am I?" You say, "This is my body, my mind, etc.," which implies that you are different from these; yet, you identify yourself with the body and become a slave of the senses instead of being their master. You are the Atma, the Supreme Master. You have the potential to realize this through the discriminating power of the intellect. Once you recognise this truth, you will get rid of your animal qualities and understand your divine nature.

جسم، ذهن، هوش و احساسات همه وسیله اند. پس این سوال پیش می آید که، "تو که هستی؟" و جواب اینست: "تو اربابی هستی که این وسایل را بکار می برد". وقتی به "ذهن ِ من، جسم ِ من، احساساتِ من" اشاره می کنید، آیا از خود می پرسید "که هستم؟" و می گویید، "این بدن من است، ذهن من است، و غیره... که نشان می دهد شما چیزی متفاوت از اینهایید؛ با اینحال، شما خود را با جسمتان می شناسید و برده احساسات هستید، به جای آنکه ارباب آنها باشید. شما آتما (روح درون)‌ هستید، ارباب والا! شما این قدرت را دارید که این امر را بواسطه قدرت درک تمیزدهنده خود تشخیص دهید. وقتی این حقیقت را دریابید، از کیفیات حیوانی خود خلاصی می یابید و ذات معنویتان را خواهید فهمید.

You do not need to go in search of love elsewhere. It is all within you. A man makes every effort to accumulate wealth. An equal effort is needed to acquire the wealth of love. Men must invest all their love in the Divine bank of devotion. This deposit is not only safe but will yield you increasing returns in terms of bliss. Your heart is the bank where your love for God should be deposited. Deposits elsewhere are insecure for, they may be lost. But the deposit in your heart is immune from any kind of theft or loss. This love is nectarine. Nectar pleases only the palate, but Divine love confers eternal bliss which is sweeter than nectar. Everyone should resolve to acquire this nectarine Love.

نیازی نیست در جایی دیگر بدنبال عشق بروید. همه اش در خود شماست. بشر همه سعی و تلاش خود را بکار می بندد تا مال و منال بیاندوزد. همان اندازه سعی لازم است تا ثروت عشق بدست آید. انسانها باید همه عشق خود را در بانک معنوی ایثار و گذشت سرمایه گذاری کنند. این اندوخته نه تنها امن است، بلکه بازدهی و سود بسیار بالایی که همانا خوشی و سعادت است برای شما خواهد داشت. قلب شما، بانکی است که عشق خداییتان باید در آن اندوخته گردد. هر اندوخته ای در جای دیگر ناامن و نامطمئن است، چون ممکن است از دست برود. ولی اندوخته قلب شما مصون و محفوظ از هر نوع زیان یا سرقت است. این عشق شربت است. شربت فقط به کام شیرین است، لیکن عشق معنوی سعادت و شادی جاودانه می بخشد که از شربت شیرین تر است. هر کس باید عزم کند تا به این شربت عشق دست یابد.

Realize that you have within you the source of power, wisdom and joy. Announce that you are unconquerable and free, that you cannot be tempted or frightened in to wrong. So long as a trace of body consciousness persists in you, the search for God must continue. Do not get caught in the sticky tangles of the external world. Do not harden your heart through greed and hate. Instead, soften it with love. Cleanse it through pure habits of living and thinking. Make it your shrine, wherein you instal and worship God. Then, you can enter the sacred precincts of Moksha (Liberation).

بدانید که شما در خود منبع قدرت، شعور و شادی دارید. به همگان بگویید که تسخیرناپذیر و آزاد هستید، که به عمل اشتباه، وسوسه و ترسانیده نمیشوید. مادامیکه نشان از بیداری و حس زندگی در بدن شماست، کنکاش بسوی خدا باید ادامه پیدا کند. در دام پیچیدگیهای جذب کننده دنیای برونی گرفتار نشوید. قلب خود را بواسطه حرص و طمع، و نفرت و کینه، سخت نسازید. در عوض، با عشق آن را نرم کنید. با عادات پاک زندگانی و تفکرات خالص آن را تطهیر نمایید. آن را زیارتگاه خود سازید، جاییکه در آن خدا را همیشگی داشته و می پرستید. آنگاه، می توانید در جایگاه مقدس مُکشا (آزادی) وارد شوید.

The primary requisite for man is to realize the divine potency in him that is the source of all the faculties and talents in him. This is true whether one is an atheist, a theist or an agnostic. No one in the world can survive without this energy. It may be called by different names. Names are not important. The energy is one. It is this divine energy which directs mankind on the right path. Men should strive to recognise the presence of the Divine in everything.

نخستین ضرورت برای انسان اینست که نیروی معنوی درونش را که منشاء همه استعدادها و توانایی های اوست بشناسد. این یک حقیقت است، چه شخص ملحد و خدانشناس باشد، چه موحد و خداپرست، و چه عارفی باشد که وجود خدا را منکر می شود. هیچ کس بدون این انرژی قادر به ادامه زندگی در جهان نیست. شاید که آن را به نامهای مختلف بخوانند. نامها مهم نیستند. آن انرژی فقط یکی است. و آن، این انرژی معنوی است که نوع بشر را به راه راستی و حقیقت هدایت می کند. انسانها باید بکوشند تا حضور معنویت را در همه چیز درک کنند.

Embodiments of Love! If you want to realize God, if you wish to experience the divinity within you, if you want to know your true self, you have to develop pure, unsullied love. Develop the love of God. All other forms of love are not love at all, but only fleeting attachments. Man's biggest folly is forgetting his divinity. All should realize that they come from God; all are children of God. Everyone should seek to get nearer and dearer to God. That is true Sadhana. You must feel that God is Hridayavaasi (indweller of the heart). You must cultivate compassion in the heart, because without it the heart is but a stone. Love is God. Live in love. Start the day with love. Spend the day with love. End the day with love. This is the way to God. Only the person who is filled with love will be dear to the Lord.

ای عشقهای مجسم! اگر می خواهید به شناخت خداوند برسید، اگر مشتاقید معنویت را در خود تجربه کنید، اگر می خواهید خود حقیقیتان را دریابید، باید که عشق پاک و بی آلایش را گسترده سازید. عشق خداوند را گسترش دهید. همهِ آن عشقهای دیگر، اصلا ً عشق نیستند، بلکه تعلقاتی زودگذرند. بزرگترین حماقت بشر اینست که معنویتش را به دست فراموشی بسپارد. همه باید بفهمند که از خدا آمده اند؛ همه فرزندان پروردگارند. هر کس باید در جستجوی این باشد که به خداوند نزدیکتر و گرامی تر شود. این سادانای واقعی است. شما باید حس کنید که خداوند هِریدایاواسی (ساکن قلبها) است. باید مهربانی را در قلبها رواج دهید، زیرا بدون آن، قلب چیزی جز سنگ نیست. عشق، خداوند است. در عشق زندگی کنید. روز را با عشق آغاز کنید، آن را با عشق سپری کنید، و با عشق به پایان برسانید. این راه رسیدن به خداوند است. تنها، کسی پیش خداوند عزیز می شود که قلبش مملو از عشق باشد.

Only a person who has the attitude of Kshama (forbearance) can be considered to be endowed with sacred love. This cannot be learned from textbooks; nor can it be acquired from preceptors. It is only when we face problems and difficulties that this quality of forbearance and forgiveness has scope for taking root. When one is confronted with problems and difficulties, one should not get upset and become a victim of depression, which is a sign of weakness. Instead, one must confront the situation with an attitude of tolerance and forgiveness without getting agitated or giving rise to anger, hatred and revengeful thoughts. You are embodiments of strength, and not of weakness. Therefore, in times of despair, you should be filled with the feeling of forbearance and be ready to forgive and forget. This quality of Kshama is the greatest power of a human being.

فقط کسی که در منش خود کشاما (شکیبایی و امساک) دارد می تواند از موهبت عشق مقدس بهره ببرد. این را نه می توان از کتب درسی یاد گرفت، و نه از معلمان یا پیران. تنها وقتی با مشکلات و سختیها مواجه می شویم است که این کیفیت – شکیبایی و بخشش مجالی برای عمل دارد. هنگامیکه یک نفر با مشکلات و دشواریهایی روبرو می شود، نباید اندوهگین شود و قربانی افسردگی- که نشانه ضعف است- گردد. در عوض، او باید با موقعیتها، با برخوردی متعادل و بخشش، بدون برآشفتن و یا خشم، کینه و فکر انتقام جویی وارد عمل شود. شما تجسم قدرت هستید، نه ضعف. بنابراین، در هنگام نومیدی، باید از حس گذشت و شکیبایی لبریز و آماده بخشش و فراموش کردن باشید. این کیفیت (کشاما) بزرگترین قدرت نوع بشر است.
