This New Year Day proclaims the truth that God is the Master of Time. Unfortunately, man fails to understand the power of God. He wastes three quarters of his time in unworthy earthly pursuits. Spiritual pursuit is the right way of making use of time. It calls for cultivating good feelings and doing good deeds without selfish motive, extending love and compassion towards all beings. This is real Sadhana (spiritual exercise). 'Sa' means Atma and 'Dhana' means wealth. By utilizing your time in spiritual pursuits, you can enjoy spiritual wealth. But, man wastes all his time in unholy thoughts and evil deeds without understanding the divinity within him. One should understand the value of time, each moment of which vanishes faster than lightning. If you want to sanctify your hard-earned human birth, you have to cultivate divine thoughts.

14 آوریل سال نوی تامیل و ویشو

این روز از سال نو، اعلان ِ این حقیقت است که خداوند فرمانروای زمان است. متاسفانه، بشر قادر به درک قدرت خداوند نیست. او سه چهارم از وقت خویش را در تعقیب مسائل دنیوی به هدر می دهد. تعقیب مسائل معنوی، راه و شیوه صحیح استفاده از وقت است و مستلزم ایجاد احساسات نیک و انجام اعمال نیک بدون انگیزه خودخواهانه و با عشق زیاد و محبت فراوان به همه موجودات است. این سادانا (تمرین معنوی) واقعی است. "سا" یعنی آتما، و "دانا" یعنی ثروت. با بکار بردن وقت در تعقیب معنویات، می توانید از ثروت معنوی بهره ببرید. اما، بشر همه وقت خویش را در افکار ناپاک و اعمال پلید هدر می دهد، بدون آنکه معنویت درون خویش را دریابد. انسان باید ارزش زمان را بفهمد، زمانی که هر لحظه آن سریع تر از نور محو و ناپدید می گردد. اگر می خواهید تولد انسانی خویش را که بسیار سخت بدست آمده تطهیر و مقدس کنید، باید افکار الهی در خود ایجاد کنید.

There are three lines along which endeavor has to be directed: (1) Spiritual exercises and discipline, (2) Cultivation of detachment, (3) Development of confidence in one's Self. Without these three, life is a wearisome and wasteful journey. Renunciation - that is the virtue you need for spiritual progress. It is not the value of the thing given up that counts, but the loftiness of the intention behind the act.

این سه خط، جملاتی هستند که باید در جهت آنها تلاش کرد: 1- تمارین معنوی و نظم و انضباط 2- ایجاد و ترویج قطع علاقه (کناره گیری از مسائل دنیوی) 3- ترویج ایمان و اعتقاد به خود. بدون این سه، زندگی سفری خسته کننده و بیهوده است. قطع علاقه- فضیلتی لازم برای پیشرفت معنوی برای شماست. این ارزش از دست رفته چیزی که ترک شده نیست که بحساب می آید، بلکه مناعتی که در پس این مقصود است بحساب می آید.

You are engaged in service, singing Bhajans and undertaking various spiritual practices. What benefit have you derived from these activities? Only when good feelings emerge from you, you get rich rewards. After sowing a neem seed, you cannot expect a mango fruit. As is the seed, so is the tree. Likewise, as is the feeling, so is the result. Good and evil are based on your feelings. Hence, develop noble thoughts and spread the message of love to the entire world. Cultivate the feeling that all are your brothers and sisters.

شما مشغول به خدمت هستید، باجان می خوانید و تمارین معنوی گوناگونی به انجام می رسانید. از این فعالیتها چه سودی می برید؟ تنها هنگامیکه احساسات خوب از شما پدیدار می شود، آن وقت است که پاداش بزرگ خود را گرفته اید. اگر دانه گیاه نیم (؟) بکارید، نمی توانید میوه انبه از آن بخواهید. درخت همان خواهد بود که دانه است. بهمین ترتیب، نتیجه همان خواهد بود که احساس است.  خیر و شر بر اساس احساسات ماست. از این رو، افکار والا در خود ایجاد کرده و پیام عشق را به تمام دنیا نشر دهید. این احساس که همه برادر و خواهر شما هستند را ترویج دهید.

Have the Name of God on your tongue, in your breath, ever. That will invoke His Form as the inner core of everything. That will provide you with His company, and contact with His boundless energy and bliss. That is the Sathsang (good association) which gives you maximum benefit. Converse with God who is in you; derive courage and consolation from Him. He is the Guru who is most concerned with your progress.

نام خداوند را دائم بر زبان خود، در دم خود داشته باشید. این موجب می شود او در شکل خود در هسته درونی هر چیز ظاهر شود. و این شما را برای همراهی با ایشان آماده می کند، و شما با نیرو و برکت و رحمت نامحدود او در تماس خواهید بود. این ساتسنگ (ارتباط خوب) است که منفعت بسیار به شما می رساند. با خدای درون خود در مصاحبت باشید؛ دلیری و دلداری ِ او را بجویید. او گورو است که پیشرفت شما برای او بیشترین اهمیت را دارد.

Absolute purity or perfection is not beyond man's capacity. It is possible for him to be perfect. But to attain the zenith of truth, beauty and goodness, man has to struggle hard. He should develop deep understanding, follow hard discipline and put in ceaseless effort. Man should regard himself as a representative of divinity and not just a 'man'. It is his duty to cultivate such qualities that reflect the divine within him. He should develop these divine qualities and spread them in society. This is the best and the only suitable remedy for many of our contemporary problems.

پاکی و تکامل ِ تمام چیزی فراتر از ظرفیت انسان نیست. او امکان تکامل را دارد. اما برای رسیدن به اوج حقیقت، زیبایی و خوبی، انسان باید سرسختانه مبارزه کند. او باید درک عمیق در خود ایجاد کند، از نظم و شیوه ای سخت پیروی کند و تلاشی پیوسته در پیش گیرد. انسان باید خود را نماینده الهی بداند و نه فقط "انسان". این وظیفه اوست که چنین خصیصه هایی را که موجب بازتاب الوهیت در او می شود را ایجاد کند. او باید این ویژگی های معنوی را بوجود آورد و در جامعه گسترده سازد. این بهترین و تنها راه حل مناسب برای بسیاری از مشکلات عصر ماست.

National service implies service to every individual in the nation. Whoever undertakes national service should realise that he is serving himself when serving others because he is a part of the nation. This realisation itself will be a great service to the nation. Very often, men tend to cloak their self-interest in the garb of national service. Our ancients were convinced that if one followed Dharma (righteousness) one would be automatically serving both himself and the society.

خدمت ملی اشاره دارد به خدمت به هر فرد در کشور. هر کس خدمت ملی را بر عهده بگیرد باید بفهمد که هنگامیکه به دیگران خدمت می کند دارد به خود خدمت می کند، چون او بخشی از ملت است. فهم این مطلب، خود، خدمتی بزرگ به ملت است. خیلی اوقات، افراد منافع شخصی خویش را در لباس خدمت به جامعه پنهان می دارند. قدمای ما معتقد بودند اگر کسی دارما (نیکوکاری) در پیش بگیرد خود بخود به خویش و جامعه اش خدمت کرده است.

Today people study the Vedas and other scriptures as a ritual; they do not put into practice any of their injunctions. Of what avail is it merely to know how the Vedas and Upanishads have described the Divine when this knowledge is not reflected in one's life? Such a person is like a blind man who hears about the existence of the world but is unable to see it. There is no difference between a physically blind man and a spiritually blind person who merely studies the scriptures. The scriptures are meant to provide guidance for practical living and not merely to be learnt by rote.

امروزه مردم وداها و دیگر متون مقدس را بعنوان تشریفات مذهبی می خوانند؛ ایشان هیچ یک از احکام آن را بعمل در نمی آورند. چه سودی خواهد داشت وقتی فقط بدانیم وداها و اوپنیشادها چطور به توضیح و شرح الوهیت پرداخته اند، وقتی این دانش در زندگی فرد بازتابی ندارد؟ چنین شخصی مثل انسانی کور است که در مورد هستی ِ دنیا می شنود اما قادر به دیدن آن نیست. هیچ تفاوتی میان فردی که از نظر فیزیکی کور است و یک روحانی کور که فقط به مطالعه کتب مقدس اکتفا می کند نیست. کتب مقدس بمنظور فراهم آوردن رهنمود برای زندگی کاربردی است و نه فقط آموختن از روی عادت.

When the sun is over your head, there will be no shadow. So, too, when faith is steady in your heart, it will not cast any shadow of doubt. Do not talk ill of others; talk only of the good in them. All are good. If you see bad in them, it is because there is bad in you. If you do not like someone, do not mix with them. Grace is the sunlight which will ripen the fruit; Sadhana (spiritual practice) is the sap which rises from earth. Both are needed by the tree of life in order that it may yield the fruit of liberation.

وقتی خورشید بالای سر شما قرار دارد، سایه ای نخواهد بود. بهمچنین، وقتی ایمان راسخ و قوی در قلب شماست، هیچ سایه تردیدی ظاهر نخواهد شد. از دیگران به بدی سخن نرانید؛ تنها از خوبی ایشان سخن بگویید. همه خوبند. اگر در آنها بدی می بینید، بخاطر اینست که در شما بدی وجود دارد. اگر کسی را دوست ندارید، با ایشان درنیامیزید. رحمت نور خورشیدی است که موجب تکامل میوه می شود؛ سادانا (تمرین معنوی) عصاره ای است که از زمین می روید. هر دو، لازمه درخت زندگی است تا میوه آزادی ثمر دهد.

The proof of true devotion is in the peace of mind that the aspirant has been able to attain; the peace which makes him unruffled by loss and dishonor; the peace that is not disturbed by anger, hatred, jealousy, conceit and lower passions; the peace which makes him feel tranquil, unconcerned and unattached under all circumstances and with all human natures. Know that you are the embodiment of that peace. Whoever has determination, discrimination, steadfastness and enthusiasm to reach the goal will reach it.

نشانه ایثار واقعی، در آرامش ذهن جویای معنویت است که قادر به کسب آن شده؛ آرامشی که او را از گمراهی و رسوایی مصون می دارد؛ آرامشی که خشم و کین، حسادت و خودبینی و نفس پست آن را مختل نکرده است؛ آرامشی که تحت هر شرایط و با هر خلق و خوی انسانی، حس آسودگی، خونسردی و بی تعلقی به او می بخشد. بدانید که شما تجسم آرامش هستید. هر کس (قدرت) تصمیم و تمیز، ثبات و اشتیاق رسیدن به هدف را داشته باشد، به آن می رسد.

It may take many lives for a man before he knows what is best for him, and is able to chalk out his own future without harming himself or others, that he is aware of the pitfalls on the way. So, it is best to trust the experience of the sages, who were filled with compassion and who were moved out of that compassion to illumine the path of liberation. This experience is enshrined in the Vedas. Faith in the Vedas irrigates the heart and makes it yield the harvest of universal love.

شاید یک شخص بسیار زندگی ها پشت سر بگذارد تا بفهمد چه چیز برای او بهتر است، و بتواند آینده خویش را بدون آسیب به خود یا دیگران رقم بزند، و از دامهای سر راهش خبردار باشد. بنابراین، بهترین کار، اعتماد به تجربه های دانایان است که سراسر وجودشان شفقت و دلسوزی بود و بواسطه شفقت و دلسوزیشان راه آزادی را روشن کردند. این تجربه ها در وداها محفوظ و ماندگار است. ایمان به وداها قلوب را آبیاری می کند و آن را پرثمرترین محصول عشق سال می سازد.
