Today people study the Vedas and other scriptures as a ritual; they do not put into practice any of their injunctions. Of what avail is it merely to know how the Vedas and Upanishads have described the Divine when this knowledge is not reflected in one's life? Such a person is like a blind man who hears about the existence of the world but is unable to see it. There is no difference between a physically blind man and a spiritually blind person who merely studies the scriptures. The scriptures are meant to provide guidance for practical living and not merely to be learnt by rote.
امروزه مردم وداها و دیگر متون مقدس را بعنوان تشریفات مذهبی می خوانند؛ ایشان هیچ یک از احکام آن را بعمل در نمی آورند. چه سودی خواهد داشت وقتی فقط بدانیم وداها و اوپنیشادها چطور به توضیح و شرح الوهیت پرداخته اند، وقتی این دانش در زندگی فرد بازتابی ندارد؟ چنین شخصی مثل انسانی کور است که در مورد هستی ِ دنیا می شنود اما قادر به دیدن آن نیست. هیچ تفاوتی میان فردی که از نظر فیزیکی کور است و یک روحانی کور که فقط به مطالعه کتب مقدس اکتفا می کند نیست. کتب مقدس بمنظور فراهم آوردن رهنمود برای زندگی کاربردی است و نه فقط آموختن از روی عادت.

When the sun is over your head, there will be no shadow. So, too, when faith is steady in your heart, it will not cast any shadow of doubt. Do not talk ill of others; talk only of the good in them. All are good. If you see bad in them, it is because there is bad in you. If you do not like someone, do not mix with them. Grace is the sunlight which will ripen the fruit; Sadhana (spiritual practice) is the sap which rises from earth. Both are needed by the tree of life in order that it may yield the fruit of liberation.
وقتی خورشید بالای سر شما قرار دارد، سایه ای نخواهد بود. بهمچنین، وقتی ایمان راسخ و قوی در قلب شماست، هیچ سایه تردیدی ظاهر نخواهد شد. از دیگران به بدی سخن نرانید؛ تنها از خوبی ایشان سخن بگویید. همه خوبند. اگر در آنها بدی می بینید، بخاطر اینست که در شما بدی وجود دارد. اگر کسی را دوست ندارید، با ایشان درنیامیزید. رحمت نور خورشیدی است که موجب تکامل میوه می شود؛ سادانا (تمرین معنوی) عصاره ای است که از زمین می روید. هر دو، لازمه درخت زندگی است تا میوه آزادی ثمر دهد.

The proof of true devotion is in the peace of mind that the aspirant has been able to attain; the peace which makes him unruffled by loss and dishonor; the peace that is not disturbed by anger, hatred, jealousy, conceit and lower passions; the peace which makes him feel tranquil, unconcerned and unattached under all circumstances and with all human natures. Know that you are the embodiment of that peace. Whoever has determination, discrimination, steadfastness and enthusiasm to reach the goal will reach it.
نشانه ایثار واقعی، در آرامش ذهن جویای معنویت است که قادر به کسب آن شده؛ آرامشی که او را از گمراهی و رسوایی مصون می دارد؛ آرامشی که خشم و کین، حسادت و خودبینی و نفس پست آن را مختل نکرده است؛ آرامشی که تحت هر شرایط و با هر خلق و خوی انسانی، حس آسودگی، خونسردی و بی تعلقی به او می بخشد. بدانید که شما تجسم آرامش هستید. هر کس (قدرت) تصمیم و تمیز، ثبات و اشتیاق رسیدن به هدف را داشته باشد، به آن می رسد.

It may take many lives for a man before he knows what is best for him, and is able to chalk out his own future without harming himself or others, that he is aware of the pitfalls on the way. So, it is best to trust the experience of the sages, who were filled with compassion and who were moved out of that compassion to illumine the path of liberation. This experience is enshrined in the Vedas. Faith in the Vedas irrigates the heart and makes it yield the harvest of universal love.
شاید یک شخص بسیار زندگی ها پشت سر بگذارد تا بفهمد چه چیز برای او بهتر است، و بتواند آینده خویش را بدون آسیب به خود یا دیگران رقم بزند، و از دامهای سر راهش خبردار باشد. بنابراین، بهترین کار، اعتماد به تجربه های دانایان است که سراسر وجودشان شفقت و دلسوزی بود و بواسطه شفقت و دلسوزیشان راه آزادی را روشن کردند. این تجربه ها در وداها محفوظ و ماندگار است. ایمان به وداها قلوب را آبیاری می کند و آن را پرثمرترین محصول عشق سال می سازد.

The mansion of human life rests on the four pillars of truth, righteousness, love and peace. The safety and security of life depend on these four values. Since ancient times, the culture of Bharat has been able to sustain itself as it is built on the bedrock of these values. Our ancestors led their lives strictly adhering to these eternal values. Bereft of these values, the mansion of life will collapse in a moment. Humanity continues to exist till this day only due to the fact that these four human values are practised at least to a certain extent. Today, the country is facing hardship as people have no regard for truth and are indulging in falsehood in their thoughts, words and deeds.
عمارت زندگی انسان بر چهار ستون حقیقت، نیکوکاری، عشق و آرامش استوار است. امنیت و ایمنی زندگی بستگی به این چهار ارزش دارد. از زمان های قدیم، فرهنگ بارات توانسته ثابت و پایدار باقی بماند، همانا آن بر پایه این چهار ارزش ساخته شده. نیاکان ما زندگی های خود را موکدا ً موافق با این چهار ارزش جاودان هدایت کرده اند. با از دست دادن این چهار ارزش، عمارت زندگی در یک لحظه فرو خواهد ریخت. بشریت تا این زمان ادامه داشته، تنها به این خاطر که این چهار ارزش انسانی حتی الامکان وجود خود را در زندگی او حفظ کرده اند. امروزه، کشور با مشکل مواجه شده، چون مردم دیگر هیچ بهایی به حقیقت نمی دهند و در افکار و گفتار و کردارشان دروغ و کذب به نهایت غایت نفوذ کرده.

The word 'Adhyatmic' or spiritual is used often by aspirants and preceptors. What exactly is implied by Adhyatmic? Is Bhajan or congregational prayer Adhyatmic? Or, does it involve Japa (repetition of God's name) and Dhyana (meditation)? Or, does it denote religious rituals and ceremonies? Or, does it extend to pilgrimages to holy places? No, no. These are all merely beneficial acts. Adhyatmic in its real sense relates to achieving or at least attempting to achieve two things: elimination of the animal traits still clinging to man and unification of the individual with the Divine.
کلمه آدیاتمیک یا معنویت غالبا ً توسط طالبان و معلمان استفاده می شود. منظور عینی آدیاتمیک چیست؟ باجان یا پرستش گروهی؟ یا، مربوط است به جاپا (ذکر نام خداوند) و دیانا (مدیتیشن)؟ یا، به مراسم مذهبی و اعیاد اشاره دارد؟ یا، مربوط است به زیارت مکانهای مقدس؟ نه، نه. همه اینها فقط اعمال مفید و سودمند است. آدیاتمیک در حقیقت مربوط است به رسیدن یا حداقل تلاش برای رسیدن به دو چیز؛ زدودن خصیصه های حیوانی که هنوز به انسان چسبیده و یکی شدن شخص با الوهیت.

It is impossible for anyone to demarcate what exactly Bhakti (devotion) is and what is not. Bhakti has infinite facets. Only pure, tender, tolerant, calm and loving souls, the very cream of Sadhus (holy men), the Hamsas (realised persons) sporting ever in the company of kindred Bhaktas, can understand its purity and depth. Others will find it as difficult to discover Bhakti in a person as discovering softness in a rock or coldness in fire or sweetness in neem. The Bhakta holds the Lord dearer to him than life; and the Lord too is attached to him in equal measure.
این غیر ممکن است که کسی بتواند تعیین کند بکتی (از خود گذشتگی) دقیقا ً چه هست و چه نیست. بکتی شکلهای بسیار زیادی دارد. تنها روح های پاک، لطیف، آرام و دوست داشتنی، عصاره خود سادوها (انسان های مقدس)، هامساها (کسانی که به درک کامل رسیده اند) که در جوار باکتاها زندگی می کنند، می توانند پاکی و عمق آن را درک کنند. دیگران برای شناخت بکتی دچار مشکل خواهند شد، همانطور که در یافتن نرمی در یک سنگ یا سرما در آتش یا شیرینی در نئون دچار مشکل می شوند. برای باکتا، خداوند عزیزتر از زندگی است؛ و خداوند نیز به همان اندازه به ایشان متصل است.

Self-knowledge is that knowledge by acquiring which everything else becomes known. A person with self-knowledge can indeed be acclaimed as all-knowing. Secular learning cannot confer on us abiding and absolute peace. Self-knowledge alone can help us cross the sea of sorrow. So, all should strive to attain self-knowledge which can be acquired through purity of mind. And purity of mind can be attained through sacred deeds, charity, compassion and devotion.
خویشتن شناسی دانشی است که بواسطه آن هر چیز دیگری شناخته می شود. کسی که به شناخت خود رسیده براستی می تواند ادعا کند که دانا بر همه چیز است. دانش دنیوی نمی تواند آرامش کامل و جاودان به ما ببخشد. خویشتن شناسی به تنهایی می تواند به ما کمک کند از دریای غم و اندوه گذر کنیم. از این رو، همه باید در تلاش برای کسب خویشتن شناسی باشند که آن را از طریق پالایش ذهن می توان بدست آورد. و پالایش ذهن را می توان بوسیله انجام اعمال مقدس، دستگیری و کمک به دیگران، مهربانی و از خود گذشتگی کسب کرد.

Students have to understand the purpose of education, put their knowledge into practice and experience bliss therefrom. Education which is not used for the welfare of society is no education at all. You can be called truly educated only when your education benefits society at large and you become the recipient of its love. It is not enough if you merely acquire bookish knowledge. You should attain supreme wisdom and cultivate virtues. True education is that which bestows on man the wealth of morality, spirituality and character. The purpose of education is not merely to sustain the body; it should broaden man’s mind and make him an ideal and virtuous person.
دانش آموزان باید هدف تحصیلات را بفهمند، دانش خود را بعمل در آورده و خیر و برکتی که از آن منتج می شود را تجربه کنند. تحصیلاتی که در جهت آسایش و رفاه جامعه بکار برده نمی شود اصلا ً تحصیلات به حساب نمی آید. شما در صورتی تحصیلکرده بشمار می آیید که تحصیلات شما موجب منفعت بسیار جامعه شود و شما عشق آن را دریافت کنید. تنها دانش کتابی کافی نیست. شما باید معرفت برتر کسب کنید و تقوا را در خود ایجاد کنید. تحصیلات واقعی آن است که به انسان ثروت ِ اخلاقیات، معنویت و شخصیت ببخشد. هدف از تحصیلات فقط حمایت و تقویت جسم نیست؛ همانا آن باید موجب وسعت بخشیدن ذهن انسان باشد و از او انسانی ایده آل و فردی پاکدامن بسازد.

Sanctify all the limbs of the body in selfless activity. But it is not that easy to practise this because there is always some self-interest in whatever man does. Self-interest is also necessary, but it should be within certain limits. God is the ocean of bliss. As is the size of your container, so is the amount of water that you can collect from the ocean. If you want to collect more bliss from the ocean of bliss, i.e., God, you have to increase the size of the container, which means you have to cultivate expansive love. Expansive love is life and constricted love is death. Foster love in you and share it with others. Whatever you do, do it to satisfy God. Only then will you find fulfilment in your work. All your actions should be beneficial to others. Only then can you win the friendship of God.
همه اعضا و جوارح خویش را با انجام فعالیت هایی که فارغ از حس خودخواهی است مطهر کنید. اما این کار کار آسانی نیست چون همیشه در هر کاری که بشر دست به انجام آن می زند نفع شخصی وجود خواهد داشت. نفع شخصی نیز امری ضروری است، اما باید تحت شرایط و محدودیت های خاصی انجام گیرد. خداوند دریای برکت و خیر است. به اندازه گنجایش شما، می توانید از این دریا آب بردارید. اگر بخواهید آب بیشتری از این دریا، یعنی خداوند بردارید، باید گنجایش خود را زیاد کنید، که این بمعنای این است که شما باید عشق بیشتری در خود ایجاد کنید. عشق زیاد یعنی زندگی و عشق محدود شده بمعنای مرگ است. عشق را در خود پرورش دهید و آن را با دیگران قسمت کنید. هر چه انجام می دهید، برای رضای خدا انجام دهید. تنها آنوقت است که کارتان را تمام و کمال به انجام رسانده اید. همه اعمال شده باید در جهت منفعت رساندن به دیگران باشد. تنها آن زمان است که دوستی با خدا را نصیب خود کرده اید.
